Between 2007 and 2021, many car dealerships received secret commissions from finance companies. These "Discretionary Commission Arrangements" (DCAs) meant dealers could inflate your interest rate to earn more money, all without telling you.

You can raise concerns directly with your lender.

The FCA has introduced a car finance redress scheme. Parts are suspended while a legal challenge is considered. Payments are expected in 2027 if the scheme is upheld and the judgment is not appealed. Read the FCA's current guidance.
